A small section of the Amazon rainforest is found within the borders of Ecuador; 42,000 square miles to be exact. Although much smaller than in Brazil, Peru and Colombia – countries with 60%, 13% and 10% of the 2,700,000 square miles of rainforest respectively – the Ecuadorian Amazon has its charm. For starters, because Ecuador is less developed than the three heavily marketed Amazon destinations above, the ecosystem is more rugged, raw, and pristine. Within that ruggedness is Nicky Amazon Lodge located in the Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve. The lodge in its simple and clean elegance was wonderful. See for yourself below and visit the website. I stayed at the lodge for three nights.
